Goal of the studies

Civil Engineering and Building Services degree programme trains construction professionals with a broad range of skills to work in a variety of Construction and Building Services jobs. Broad professional skills include good professional theoretical, practical and methodological knowledge and in-depth expertise in one's own area of specialization.

To work in civil engineering and building services jobs, requires problem-solving, mathematical and economic thinking, teamwork and leadership skills, versatile IT skills, communication and language skills. On this basis, this programme is based on the traditional theoretical competences required in the profession of construction and building services engineering.

In addition, the programme emphasizes practical relevance in the profession, learning by doing, problem-solving, cooperation, internationality and in-depth knowledge of the major and specialization. Sustainable development and digital literacy are included in the different modules of the curriculum, as appropriate.

This programme prepares students for the profession of civil engineer and building services engineer, most of whom will initially work as civil or HVAC-engineers in Construction, possibly progressing to similar specialist or managerial roles.

Content and structure of the studies

Extent of the studies is 240 ECTS credit points and duration 4 years.

The studies include typically the following modules

  • 95 ECTS Degree programme studies
  • 60 ECTS Major subject studies
  • 10 ECTS Innovation project (MINNO)
  • 20 ECTS Minor subject and elective studies, either one minor subject of 20 ECTS or 15 ECTS of alternative studies and 5 ECTS of elective studies
  • 10 ECTS Profile Studies in Working Life Skills
  • 30 ECTS Practical work training
  • 15 ECTS Bachelor's thesis

Implementation of the studies

The studies are implemented as daytime studies at Myllypuro Campus.

You can study engineering in English and learn Finnish at the same time. You do not need Finnish skills when you start.

Career opportunities and qualifications

Typical tasks of a civil engineer include designing structures for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, site works, maintenance and renovation.

Jobs are available in engineering and design firms, construction companies, building products industry, public administration and research institutes.

Scholarships and tuition fees

Annual tuition fee is 11 500 € for non-EU/EEA students, whose right of study starts after 31 July 2027.

This fee applies only to non-EU/EEA degree students.
