As a professional in digital design, you will master the diverse skills required for designing and producing digital services. You will understand the principles of design thinking and be familiar with industry-standard design processes.
Human-centered design, web technologies, information architecture, social media concepts and services, as well as interactive functionalities, are your area of expertise.
Structure and content of the studies
The Bachelor of Design degree consists of common core studies, professional studies, work placement, a thesis, and elective studies.
The common core studies in design support the professional studies. They include, for example, language and communication studies, orientation to studies, business and marketing, as well as an exploration of the relationships between media, design, and society.
In the professional studies, students gain a broad understanding of user interface and user experience design, service design methods, concept development, content creation, implementation technologies, and the various publishing opportunities offered by digital channels.
The degree includes a five-month work placement. During the placement, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real working environment.
The thesis, completed at the end of the studies, demonstrates the student’s professional competence. It typically consists of a project focusing on a specific area of digital design and an accompanying written report.
Through elective studies, students can complement and deepen their expertise.
Our degree programme is committed to the principles of sustainable development.
At Metropolia’s Design programme, students engage in many forms of collaboration with working life, the third sector, individual clients, and actors from other fields at Metropolia.
Teaching takes place in Helsinki on Arabia Campus. Tuition is in Finnish.
