Developing Procurement Function -study module includes three fully online Master's level courses:

Schedules

All courses are conducted fully online.

  • Procurement Analytics and Technology: Online lectures on 20.1, 3.2, 24.2. and 10.3. at 17.00-20.00
  • Contract and Risk Management: Online lectures on Wed 18.3., 1.4., 15.4 and 29.4. at 17.00-20.00
  • Sustainable Procurement: Online lectures on 24.3, 7.4. 21.4. and 6.5. at 17.00-20.00

Enrollment

Enroll for Developing Procurement Function study module in Metropolia Open UAS enrollment system.

Enrollment is done by clicking “Add to basket”. Enrollment is open from 6th October 2025 at 10:00 am until 13th January 2026 at 23:59 pm.

Open UAS study benefit for alumni

Alumni of Metropolia (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences higher education degree graduates) have the opportunity to study for free at Metropolia Open UAS for four semesters after graduating. Free studies must be completed within four full semesters. Please see below the enrollment instructions.

  1. Enroll for the studies in the Open UAS enrollment system.
  2. If the studies are fee-based, select "Order invoice" as the payment method.
  3. After confirming your enrollment, please contact us by e-mail avoinamk [at] metropolia.fi (avoinamk[at]metropolia[dot]fi), regardless of whether you have enrolled in fee-based or free studies. The e-mail must state that you are a Metropolia alum and which studies you are enrolled in.

Apply to Become a Degree Student

This study module consist of 15 ECTS of Professional Procurement Studies. After completion of these 15 ECTS with good grades (min. grade 3 or higher per course) you are welcome to apply to become a degree student through a separate application process in 2026. Lecturers

Lecturer Marika Tuomela-Pyykkönen

Marika Tuomela-Pyykkönen, M.Sc. (Econ. and Bus.Admin/Logistics), Senior Lecturer in Procurement, Doctoral Researcher, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Marika is a passionate advocate for developing procurement expertise, combining an academic background with a practical, development-oriented approach. She has 20 years of experience in procurement — as a buyer, an educator, and a researcher. She is an active member of an international procurement researchers´ association, IPSERA (International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association), currently leading the Special Interest Group of Education. She has actively engaged also on ProcurFinland led by the Finnish Ministry of Finance and its partner associations, currently serving as the leader of national procurement researchers’ network.

Marika’s strengths lie in understanding the importance of procurement competences in achieving an organization’s strategic objectives. She believes that competent procurement is an investment in the future and that it can be used to build a more sustainable and responsible society.

Lecturer Heikki Heponiemi

Heikki Heponiemi, M.Sc. (Econ.) Senior Lecturer in Supply Chain Management, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Heikki is a supply chain and procurement professional with a strong technological background, combining expertise in supply management, digital technologies, and automation. Before joining Metropolia, Heikki gained 15 years of industry experience in global companies, working in both operational and managerial roles across supply chain management, procurement, and industrial automation. His career includes positions in the robotics and automation sector, where he developed practical expertise in applying technology to improve efficiency and performance.

His teaching interests include supply chain strategies, procurement development, warehouse and business process automation, robotics, and sustainable supply chains. Heikki is especially motivated by guiding students to connect theory with practice and by helping future professionals develop the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving global business environment.

Lecturer Perttu PohjonenPerttu Pohjonen, M.Sc. (Agriculture and Forestry) Senior Lecturer in Public Procurement

Perttu is a procurement development expert whose expertise in public procurement is based particularly on extensive experience in both implementing and developing procurement in the municipal and state sectors. Perttu has a total of 20 years of experience in procurement-related roles.

Throughout his career, Perttu has been closely involved in procurement management and the development of procurement competence especially in the field of sustainability. He has worked in several national level development programs related to sustainable procurement in Finland. Perttu hopes that by developing procurement competence, organizations will come to better understand the strategic importance of procurement management and that appreciation for the procurement profession will grow.

Lecturer Ross Kamarul-Baharin

Ross Kamarul-Baharin, LL.M (Master of Law), Senior Lecturer in Law and International Business

Ross is a qualified lawyer with legal experience in commercial and corporate transactions. He is also an experienced academic instructor with extensive knowledge in international business and logistics, corporate governance, stakeholder management as well as intercultural preparedness. He has worked with institutions and clients in various countries.
