Studies

Innovate, automate, and transform future industries through robotics engineering!

Robotics engineers are in high demand in several industries including manufacturing, warehousing, agriculture, healthcare, and logistics. This bachelor's degree programme offers a multidisciplinary approach encompassing various technologies: automation, mechanical engineering, software engineering, and artificial intelligence.

In Metropolia UAS’s Robotics Engineering programme, you will gain strong mathematical, scientific and linguistic foundation on which to build your future learning. You will gain a broad knowledge of automation, artificial intelligence, and the mechanics of machines. With the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience obtained during studies, the graduates will be able to build, maintain, and design automated solutions for a sustainable future!

Mode of Studies

The degree is a blended implementation, which allows for the studies to be completed alongside work. The studies include periodical classroom teaching days that require attendance, small group work, independent learning, and online learning. Studying in a blended-learning degree programme gives you more flexibility to pace your studying and arrange time for work or other responsibilities. It requires commitment, self-direction, and a good attitude towards studying.

Curriculum and Skill Development

The studies combine strong mathematical and scientific skills with a practical approach and learning by doing. The programme equips you with a strong technical foundation and you will learn to master several areas of robotics with applications. You will develop strong competencies to work in various roles within the field of robotics for example in industry, as an entrepreneur, and in the hospital environment. Entrepreneurship and the utilisation of artificial intelligence are overarching themes throughout the degree.

In the professional modules called core studios, you will learn several areas of robotics, including:

  • Robot software
  • Mechatronics
  • Robotics systems
  • Robot perception
  • Robot control and learning.

Robotics courses emphasise practicality, user-oriented approaches, learning by doing, problem-solving skills, collaboration abilities, in-depth mastery of professional subjects, and internationalisation.

Robotics Engineering Curriculum for groups starting in the autumn 2026 will be published later in Metropolia's StudyGuide.

You will learn to work in intercultural setting and be part of international student community.

Career Prospects

The demand for Robotics specialists is constantly growing. Robotics Engineers are needed in various roles including designing robots to improve manufacturing processes, developing software of autonomous machines, and maintaining and developing systems and equipment to improve efficiency across industries.

You may build your career e.g. in industrial plants, design companies and consultancies, healthcare sector, agriculture, or aeronautical industry.

Possible job titles include:

  • Robotics Engineer
  • Robotics Technician
  • Robotics Operator
  • Project Engineer/Manager
  • Technical Sales Engineer
  • Key Account Manager
  • Software Engineer
  • Design Engineer
  • Automation Engineer
  • Aerospace Engineer

With the strong skills foundation, hands-on project experience, and knowledge gathered in your chosen specialisation modules, you will be well equipped to start your career in robotics.

Drive the smart revolution with a career in robotics engineering!

Networking and Industry Connections

Our undergraduate Robotics Engineering degree is specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of industries, and there are several opportunities to start networking with industry representatives while studying. Excursions, work placements, and thesis offer possibilities for practical learning with industry and R&D partners.

Metropolia's network of company partners ranges from local industry representatives to multinational corporations. As a student, you will benefit from direct industry involvement: local companies offer work placement and thesis opportunities that allow you to start building your professional network while studying.

Robotics Engineers are needed in research and development activities such as innovation projects. Metropolia's phenomenon-phased innovation hubs host various regional, international, and national research and development projects that require multidisciplinary expertise and collaboration. Students are encouraged to participate in these projects, often using either work placements or thesis to contribute directly to industry innovation.

The Application on the Basis of Metropolia’s Open UAS Studies is aimed at those who have completed studies not leading to a degree at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Those applying for a master’s degree are, however, required also to have a separate required basic education and work experience that gives them eligibility to apply.

Application period: 4 May 2026 8:00 am - 31 October 2026 3:00 pm, all times refer to local time in Finland.

In flexible admission (i.e. rolling admission) the study places are filled in the order in which applications are received, so that all applicants who meet all the student selection requirements are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the application ends or the study places are filled.

All the information needed to apply can be found on the national Studyinfo.fi portal. At Studyinfo.fi you can find descriptions of degree programmes, application criteria, application instructions, application forms and much more.

Note: Many degree programmes accept applications on a continuous basis. However, applicants who are required to pay tuition fees should carefully consider the timing of their application. In most cases, it is not advisable to begin studies in the middle of a term (either autumn or spring), as tuition fees cannot be paid for only part of the term. For this reason, it is generally best to apply well in advance of the start of the term, so that studies can commence from the very beginning.
