Are you already studying at Metropolia? Do you need support with career planning, job search, or finding a work placement (internship)? This service is intended for Metropolia degree students.

Are you applying to Metropolia as a degree student? Metropolia's Admissions Services provide support and advice for applying to degree programmes and for questions related to the application process.
If you have questions about the content of a specific degree programme, please contact the programme’s head of degree programme or study counsellor. Their contact details can be found on the degree programme’s web page.
Career guidance at Metropolia’s Open UAS helps you plan your own career path. You can get guidance, for example:
- if you want to complete individual Open UAS courses
- if you are considering applying for degree studies via the Open UAS study path ("väyläopinnot")
- if you want to develop skills needed in working life
- if you are exploring different career options.
The guidance session lasts 30 minutes and is free of charge. It is intended for everyone interested in Open UAS studies, but not for Metropolia’s degree students. In the guidance session, you can talk with a career coach about your future plans. Open UAS career guidance is on summer break. The next counseling appointment slots will open on July 29, 2026.
SIMHE-Metropolia's Career Guidance for immigrants – support for planning your career in Finland
Who is the service for?
SIMHE-Metropolia’s Career Coaches provide guidance for highly educated immigrants living in Finland who are planning further studies or career development in Finland.
Some groups may seek guidance from other services:
- If you are studying for a degree at a Finnish higher education institution, please contact the career services of your own institution.
For example, Metropolia has its own career coaching team for students. You can contact them via JobTeaser or by email. More information is available on the Career Coaching and Job Search Support page for Metropolia´s students. - If you are attending integration training, please contact your own educational provider (more information about integration training is available on Job Market Finland and the curriculum on the Finnish National Agency for Education website). We recommend registering to SIMHE–Metropolia´s services towards the end of your integration training when you are ready to apply for further education.
Language requirement
To ensure effective guidance, we require at least B1-level skills in Finnish or English English (CEFR scale).
If you wish, you may bring a trusted support person or interpreter with you.

Personal Career Guidance is organized by SIMHE-Metropolia’ s Career Coach via Zoom, Teams or by phone if necessary.
You can receive field-specific guidance from SIMHE-Metropolia currently in the following areas:
- ICT (information and communication technology)
- Social and health care
- Teaching
If none of these fields are suitable for you, please choose “Any field”.
Practical information for guidance sessions
- A career guidance session lasts 1 hour.
- Guidance is available in English and/or Finnish.
- By default, guidance is provided online (Zoom or Teams). If you prefer to talk by phone, please mention this when making your booking.
- The service is free of charge.
Booking a guidance session
Book a time for SIMHE-Metropolia´s personal guidance through the Vihta booking system.
- Available times are based on the career coaches’ schedules. If none of the offered times suit you, you can send an email to simhe [at] metropolia.fi (simhe[at]metropolia[dot]fi) (for people living in Finland only) and tell us what later time you would prefer. We will do our best to find a suitable time.
After making a booking
- Once you have booked a time in the Vihta system, you will receive instructions and later an invitation to the guidance session by email. If you do not receive these messages, please check your spam folder.
- After the discussion, you will receive a brief overview of the key links and tips by email.
In group guidance sessions, you will receive peer support from others who are in a similar situation. You can discuss career opportunities, studying, learning Finnish, and job search. There is also dedicated time for job searching during the session – you even have time to send a job application on the spot! Each group session lasts 2.5 hours.
You can join and leave whenever you like, but we recommend arriving on time. At the beginning, shared information will be given to everyone, and at the end, there will be time for open discussion or to focus on your own job search.

Note: You are encouraged to use Finnish during the event, but you are welcome to join even if you do not speak Finnish well yet. The coaches speak clear and simple Finnish, and they can explain things in English if needed. The materials are available in English.
