A physiotherapist is a multi-skilled professional who promotes people's functioning, health, well-being, and mobility. Physiotherapists make a significant contribution to promoting the health of individuals and groups.

Physiotherapists plan physiotherapy based on the needs and goals of the individual in collaboration with the client, their close ones, and other professionals. The areas of expertise of a physiotherapist include functional assessment, guidance, rehabilitation and therapy, accessibility and availability, technology, ethics, and social skills. Physiotherapists act as experts in their field in multidisciplinary working groups and in regional, national, and international networks based on multidisciplinary expertise.
The aim of Metropolia's physiotherapy degree program is to educate skilled physiotherapists who can develop their own work and innovating in response to the diverse and unpredictable needs of a changing society. Current issues challenge professionals to engage in continuous learning and reform their practices. According to the needs of social, health care, and rehabilitation services, the education emphasizes broad-based competence and the ability to engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, which is grounded in client understanding and the client’s active participation.
