The Master’s Degree Programme in Theatre and Live Event Technology is designed for professionals in performance, theatre and live event technology who want to deepen their expertise and strengthen their leadership, management and development skills.

The studies focus on developing the ability to lead production processes and development projects in future-oriented technical-artistic environments. Theoretical studies, expert lectures and practical development work support the development of students’ own professional practice.

The programme is closely connected to working life. Current changes and future needs in the field are reflected in the study content through development assignments and research activities linked to students’ own work communities.

The degree consists of:

  • 25 ECTS credits of advanced professional studies
  • 5 ECTS credits of elective studies
  • 30 ECTS credits for the master’s thesis

A master’s degree qualifies graduates for positions that require a higher university degree. In some sectors, a master’s degree may also be required for public positions, competitive tendering processes or funding applications.

Thesis: Working Life Development Project

The master’s thesis is typically based on a concrete development project carried out either in the student’s own workplace or in close collaboration with a company or organization in the field.

The thesis combines practical development work with a research-based approach. It provides an opportunity to explore and solve a professional development or research challenge in depth while strengthening students’ capabilities for independent expert work.

Flexible Multimodal Studies Alongside Work

The programme is designed to be completed alongside full-time work.

Studies are delivered through a flexible multimodal format that takes students’ prior expertise into account. The programme combines face-to-face and online learning with development assignments carried out in professional working environments.

Teaching takes place at the Metropolia Arabia Campus in Helsinki. The programme includes approximately 3–5 contact or online teaching days per month from September to August.

The extent of the degree is 60 ECTS credits, and the recommended duration for international students is one year.

The programme is intended for professionals in theatre, performance and live event technology who wish to deepen their expertise, strengthen their leadership and management skills, and advance their qualifications through a master’s degree.

Scholarships and tuition fees

Annual tuition fee 12 500 € for non-EU/EEA degree students.
