Private Dental Hygiene services

We offer private dental hygiene services that you can book directly by calling our dental clinic - you don not need a referral.

Please note this when booking:

• if you have asthma or other similar respiratory illness, we are unfortunately unable to do a powder cleansing.
• treatments performed by students are not covered by Kela reimbursement.
• please allow free time for bleaching evaluation for bleaching first. You can also combine the bleaching assessment with other treatment visits, so be sure to mention this when booking.
• for the dental jewelry application you can either bring your own tooth jewelry or buy one from HyMy Village.

Helsinki City Dental Hygiene services

We treat patients of all ages referred by the Dental Healthcare of Helsinki City. You will need a referral from your own dentist.

Once you have received the referral from the Dental Healthcare of Helsinki City, we receive the electric referral and the dental hygiene student will call you to make an appointment for your first visit.

• On your first visit, we will perform a comprehensive oral examination for you, which will include a cariological and periodontal (connective tissue) examination. The supervising teacher, who is health care professional, goes through the possible findings together with the oral hygiene student.
• During the visit, you will receive instructions and, if necessary, advice on oral self-care.
• We will work with you on a symptomatic treatment plan and agree on any follow-up visits.
• During your follow-up visits, we will take the necessary action.

The treatment is free of charge for those living in Helsinki.

Dental healthcare for children and adolescents

• Dental health examinations
• Personal oral health plan
• Health guidance; eg oral cleaning, nutritional advice, advice on the use of fluoride preparations and xylitol
• Stopping of incoming dental diseases, referring to corrective dental care

Dental healthcare for adults and the elderly

• Dental health examinations
• Personal oral health plan
• Health guidance; eg health discussion on the interrelationship between dental health and general health, oral cleaning education, nutrition counseling, counseling on the use of fluoride preparations and xylitol, treatment of dentures
• Prevention and treatment of gingival and connective tissue diseases; removal of bacterial plaque / tartar and stains, etc.
• Treatment of dry mouth and bad breath
• The treatment of connective tissue diseases in a patient in need of demanding care is carried out in collaboration between an oral hygiene student and a dental student from the University of Helsinki.

What does the Dental Hygienist do?

The core job of an Dental Hygienist is to promote the dental health of people in different ages and cultures, to map the state of dental health, and to prevent, treat and rehabilitate infectious diseases of the mouth. The expertise of an Dental Hygienist also includes local management, entrepreneurship and national and international cooperation.
