The Live Performance Technology degree programme takes four years and consists of 240 ECTS credit points, the graduates receiving the title Bachelor of Culture and Arts.
The degree programme trains technical management, design and implementation personnel for performing arts and events. Live Performance Technology studies approach the technical theatre and event technology field from a variety of perspectives. Wide scope of technology (light, sound, video and stage), production skills, safety and project management are key elements of the training.
Bachelor’s degree can be obtained through full-time study in the daytime or as continuing education for adults for those with previous work experience and/or higher education qualifications.
As a multidisciplinary operating environment, Metropolia offers students an all-round and fitting domain in which to practice their skills. Practical training and projects are carried out in cooperation with professional theatres, other performing groups and event technology companies.
Theatre and Performance Technology graduates work in a variety of professional performance activities: theatre and opera houses, theatre groups, cultural establishments and community centres, in concert and festival organisations, international productions and sales organisations.
The training is carried out in the classroom, as distance learning and guided project work. In addition to the extensive technical core studies the studies consist of alternative and elective studies, practical training and a final project. Students have a personal study plan to help them deepen their studies in various technical theatre sectors and cultural fields.
Metropolia prides itself on the distinction of its professionally active and pedagogically innovative teaching staff, which is devoted to the profession of technical theatre. The degree programme has strong and up-to-date networks with professionals working in the field. Metropolia and its predecessor Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia have been active partners in theatre technology training development projects and for example coordinated the Live Performance Technology in EU and Technical Theatre Training in EU projects.
