The following instructions apply to the Autumn 2024 Joint Application for Finnish-language and English-language degree programmes, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the spring term of 2025.
The results of student selections will be published for certificate based student selections no later than 14 October 2024 and for other student selections no later than 21 November 2024. Acceptance from the waiting list will end on 18 December 2024 at 3:00 pm (current local time in Finland).
Please note that the certificates are checked only for those selected as students, and student selection is conditional until the certificates used as a basis for student selection have been checked. Metropolia may withdraw the admission, if an applicant has given false information or does not deliver all the required documents by the deadline.

In addition, those selected for the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Sciencemust have sufficient visual acuity and normal color vision.
You have been asked on the application forms to assess your own suitability based on your health and ability to function, and if you have reported a medical condition or similar on your application form, your student selection is conditional until your health and ability to function have been reviewed. The health and functional capacity will be checked on the basis of a separate medical report, which you will be required to complete by the deadline for accepting the study place if applicable. A separate email will be sent to you if the matter concerns you.
In addition, those admitted to the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must present a certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, optician or optometrist at the beginning of their studies. The student selection is conditional until applicants' vision has been checked.

Documents must be submitted in the following cases:
- If you have not provided, at the time of application, a copy of the eligibility certificate details of which cannot be found in the Finnish national education database Koski (only available in Finnish/Swedish).
- If you applied for a Bachelor's degree and completed one of the following degrees during the application period:
- Finnish high school curriculum without a matriculation examination,
- Finnish vocational upper secondary degreeat the time of application in Åland,
- degree completed abroad,
- International Baccalaureate (IB) *,
- European Baccalaureate (EB), or
- Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung (DIA) / Reifeprüfung (RP).
- If you applied for a Master's degree and completed the degrees/studies or work experience required for eligibility during the application period , as a result of which you must submit:
- in the case of work experience: copies of employment certificates (note that, for example, a CV, employment contract, employment pension statement or salary certificate does not correspond to an employment certificate), and
- in the case of degrees/studies: a copy of the higher education degree certificate, as well as official transcripts (*) or a link to the performance data in the Finnish national education database Koski.
* IB graduates will submit a copy of the final grades “transcript of grades”.
Note! In addition, a copy of the official translation must be submitted for certificates that are not written in Finnish, Swedish or English.
The required documents must be uploaded by the deadline for acceptance of study as an attachment of the application at Studyinfo. A clear picture taken with a smartphone or camera is enough. You can access the downloaded documents for your application via the My Studyinfo -service, or by editing the application via the link you received by e-mail. If you have already uploaded the certificates as an attachment to the application, you do not need to resubmit them.
If the required information is available at the Finnish national education database Koski, it is not necessary to verify it with certificates but it is enough to grant viewing rights to the educational information at Koski. This can be done by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service (use of the service requires authentication with a bank ID, mobile certificate or certificate card) and completing the following steps (the service is available in Finnish or Swedish only):

- select "jaa suoritustietojasi"
- select the degree(s) for which you want to give the viewing rights

Separate Application for International Degree Programmes for studies starting in spring 2025
The following instructions apply to Separate Application for International Degree Programmes, in which you apply for a degree student's study entitlement starting from the spring term of 2025.
This application process is carried out as a flexible admission (i.e. “rolling admission”), which means that student selections are made as applications arrive. Metropolia strives to get the applicant a selection decision as quickly as possible, but how quickly you get a student selection decision depends on several different factors. As a result, in some cases it can take more than two months to obtain a student selection decision (for example, if the application is sent just after the start of the holiday period), but the processing time can also be considerably shorter.

- If you need a residence permit for your studies, check your National Learner ID (that shows in the same place where you accept the study place) and write it down for yourself, as you must inform it to the Finnish Immigration Services when applying for a residence permit. The residence permit application should be submitted immediately after the study place has been confirmed. More detailed instructions on the residence permit application for studies is available on the web site of the Finnish Immigration Services.

If you accept the study place, you must register for the first academic year as present or absent (spring term 2025) by the deadline for accepting the study place. If you do not register for the first academic year by the deadline, you will lose your right to study. Registration takes place electronically in connection with the acceptance of a study place of study via the My studyinfo -service or via the link mentioned in the e-mail sent after the publication of the student selection. If you are unable to accept your place electronically, please contact Metropolia's Student and Admission Services.

A student who has lost his or her right to study can apply for regranting the right to study and pay the fee online at https://maksut.metropolia.fi. A fee of 50 euros will be charged for processing the application, in accordance with section 3 of the Government Decree on Fees Charged by the Universities of Applied Sciences (1440/2014).
According to the Polytechnics Act, you can only register for absence for the first academic year for the following reasons:
- the student performs service in accordance with the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Civil Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women (194/1995);
- the student needs time off his/her studies to take care of a child in regard to the child’s birth or adoption; or
- the student is unable to start his / her studies due to his / her own illness or injury.
If you register as absent, you must provide proof of the reason for your absence by the deadline for accepting the study place. See Metropolia's web site “Absence on the First Year” for more detailed instructions.
Please note! The tuition fee for English language courses is available for the Early Bird discount (€ 1 000) for the first academic term if the applicant accepts the place of study and registers within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (*). More information can be found below in step 3 (pay the tuition fee).
Tuition fees apply to non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English language studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree. Students may be exempted from tuition on the basis of certain documents. In order to confirm his or her study place, an applicant liable for the tuition fee must pay the tuition fee for the first academic term by the given deadline. Students who are required to pay the tuition fee will be sent an e-mail containing instructions on how to pay the tuition fee after student selection. Please note! A student may deduct the Early Bird discount (€ 1 000) from the tuition fee of the first academic term if he/she has accepted the study place and registered for the academic year as present within 7 days of the publication of the student selection decision by 3 pm (current local time in Finland). Those applying to study within Health Care and Social Services must have sufficient health and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work placement periods as part of the studies. In addition, those selected for the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must have sufficient visual acuity and normal color vision.
You have been asked on the application forms to assess your own suitability based on your health and ability to function, and if you have reported a medical condition or similar on your application form, your student selection is conditional until your health and ability to function have been reviewed. The health and functional capacity will be checked on the basis of a separate medical report, which you will be required to complete by the deadline for accepting the study place if applicable. A separate email will be sent to you if the matter concerns you.
In addition, those admitted to the degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must present a certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, optician or optometrist at the beginning of their studies. The student selection is conditional until applicants' vision has been checked.
