Enhance your competence as a procurement professional

Master's Degree Programme in Procurement is a degree for students who want to enhance their competence as a procurement and sourcing professional and learn to analyze and develop the procurement and sourcing function to serve the goals and strategies of a company.

The overall goals are to learn about driving value through the supply chain to the end customer, how procurement can be turned into a strategic function, how technology can be utilized as an enabler of effective supply management, how sustainability and collaboration are at the core of procurement and sourcing functions and how to sell the business case of procurement to the rest of the organization.

After your studies you have gained the needed theoretical and applied knowledge, skills, and competencies to manage and develop company's external resources, supplier relationships, procurement process and procurement organization. In addition to procurement specific competencies, you enhance your leadership and business competencies.

Master students of Procurement study on a part-time basis. The programme is organized fully online. It has been designed to meet the needs of students who prefer distance learning or want to achieve a Master's Degree while working. This is implemented with help of modern online learning solutions which enable interaction with teachers, other students, and staff. Online contact teaching is organized mainly in the evenings at 17 - 20 EET and on Saturdays. There will be also a possibility to join the Orientation day and start of the semester at Myyrmäki campus in Finland.

Student has the right to complete the studies in accordance with the curriculum for the degree in question and with the approved personal study plan. Metropolia organizes the Master's degree studies and study guidance in such a way that the student can aim to complete the studies in a period which is equivalent to 1,5 academic years for 90 ECTS. However, normally students achieve their degree in Procurement MBA in 2 years since the students are responsible for acquiring the partner organization for their thesis development work themselves.

In addition to Advanced professional studies in procurement the courses about research and development methods provide students the basis for carrying out applied research projects. Advanced professional studies provide other necessary knowledge and skills to follow the professional development of the field, both from research and practical viewpoints. You will plan and implement a Research & Development project in a real business context, typically at own place of work. In doing so, you research, project management and change leadership skills will be enhanced. Networking, team and negotiation skills will be improved in the multi-cultural, tied-to-business setting in which this Master’s DP in Procurement is carried out. You will report your RDI development project as a Master’s Thesis combining your development work with academic research.

Job opportunities

The knowledge, skills and competencies you will acquire will enable you to manage direct and indirect procurement and sourcing and supplier relationships, develop the procurement function and organization and work in the procurement and sourcing of materials, components, machinery and various services in a wide range of industries and organizations. You will also strengthen your leadership and business management skills.

As a graduate of the Master of Procurement, you can work in areas such as

  • planning and managing procurement activities and organisations
  • in demanding procurement development projects
  • as an expert in the procurement of materials, components, machinery and equipment, supplies and services and rights and know-how.

Study Procurement through Open UAS

You study Procurement also through Open University of Applied Sciences. The extent of Procurement Open path studies 15 ECTS. Enrollment for the paths starting Autumn 2024 will open on 3rd June 2024. Read more about Open UAS studies.

Scholarships and tuition fees

The tuition fees concern students who are not citizens of EU/EEA countries. Students pay annual tuition fees based on their study right. The payment obligation concerns all the academic terms during which a student is registered as attending.

Annual tuition fee

  • 11 000 for those, whose right of study starts before 1 August 2024
  • 11 500 € for those, whose right of study starts after 31 July 2024.

    The Application on the Basis of Metropolia’s Open UAS Studies is aimed at those who have completed open UAS studies at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Studies are considered to be Metropolia's if they are entered in the Metropolia's study register, and open studies if they have not been completed with the right to study for the degree-leading education.

Starting Procurement studies

Welcome to study at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland! Your application to study in the Master’s Degree Programme in Procurement has been accepted. We are very happy to have you joining our international student community!

Master’s Degree Programme in Procurement is a fully online tuition of 90 ECTS and lasts 1,5-2 years. Studying with us will give you a strong base for your career in the field of Procurement. The online studies offer great flexibility in terms of time and place of study, but also require a very independent approach to studies and strong self-management.

Your courses are organized via learning platform (Moodle) and always have sessions with video conferencing software as well. Thus, in your studies you will need a computer with a webcam and microphone as well as a good quality online connection. In addition to the online learning environments you are also welcome to use the facilities of the Metropolia Myyrmäki campus and other campuses in the Helsinki region.

Orientation day and Start of courses 30th of August 2024

Your studies will start on Friday the 30th of August at 9 am EET. There will be program until 4 pm. You are welcome to join the day at our Myyrmäki campus in Finland to meet us and your student colleagues face-to-face. The option to join online is available as well, links to online sessions will be sent to you in August via email.

In the orientation, you will hear about Metropolia’s services, projects done in collaboration with the business and industry and your exciting career options through this program. You will find out about all the practicalities of the program and your studies, including online learning environment, personal study plans, curriculum details, library introduction.

To get your studies started smoothly, we expect you to participate 30.8 both in the orientation 9 am - 1.30 pm and first course about Procurement Strategy 1.30 pm - 4 pm. Also, you will get to meet and mingle with your student colleagues!
