Ni, Jui Hsin “Ray”

Ni, Jui Hsin is a Taiwanese musician and second-year student at the Sibelius Academy’s Global Music department in Finland. He specializes in the shamisen, a traditional Japanese string instrument. His passion lies in exploring the intersection of tradition and innovation, blending cultural heritage with creative expression through music.

His musical journey began with percussion instruments in childhood, eventually leading him to study the shamisen in Japan at the age of 20. Over the years, he has immersed himself in traditional Japanese folk music while also composing original pieces inspired by his experiences.

His approach to composition is guided by intuition, imagination, and the deep connection to the music he plays. This has allowed him to create works that are personal and unique, including a recent piece written in Mandarin, reflecting his journey and insights from studying at the Sibelius Academy.

Adriana Carolina Parrado Ocampo

Carolina is a Colombian multi-instrumentalist, composer, and vocalist based in Finland. She plays harp, cuatro, maracas, and guitar, specializing in joropo, cumbia, Andean music, boleros, and pop. Her compositions fuse the rich traditions of joropo and cumbia with modern pop influences, creating a distinctive and dynamic sound.

With a degree in International Business, Carolina has contributed to 27 recordings across joropo, pop, and theater music, including six original compositions. Having lived in the US and Russia, she participated in local choirs, gaining an international perspective on music. She was also an invited guest performer at El Torneo Internacional del Joropo in 2011 and 2012, the most prestigious folk music festival for joropo.

Currently studying Global Rhythms and Global Choir at Sibelius Academy, Carolina is developing her own artistic project, exploring new sonic landscapes while staying deeply connected to her Latin American heritage.

Adeshina Omotola David

Adeshina Omotola David is a minstrel, accomplished musicologist, and a true creative force. His musical journey began at a tender age when he fell in love with the enchanting world of music. As an active member of the C&S Irawo Owuro church choir, he honed his musical talents, receiving invaluable nurturing and support.

With an unrelenting passion and boundless enthusiasm, Omotola pursued higher education in music at the prestigious University of Ibadan and graduated in January 2022. Today, he stands as Music Lecturer at Pefti Film Institute, where he imparts his profound knowledge to the next generation of musicians. Adeshina is also the Music Director of his church, where he continues to shape and elevate the spiritual and artistic experiences of the community through the power of music.

Notably, Adeshina Omotola has left his musical imprint on various fronts. He has not only produced a solo track titled "Still Here with Me" but has also lent his remarkable talents to numerous collaborative musical projects.

Angela Valenzuela “Loïca”

Angela Valenzuela (Loïca) is a Chilean singer, composer, organizer and human ecologist. She is based in Finland where she studies Global Music at Sibelius Academy. For the last 10 years she has worked in the intersection between art and environmental activism. As a composer, she has released two albums that seek to bear witness to the climate crisis and create a sense of unity in the fight for climate justice. She has designed and implemented several artistic storytelling workshops in Chile, Tunisia, Lebanon and online as a creative for Greenpeace International. This ranged from leading the co-creation of songs, poems and a hand sculpture made with hundreds of activists.

She is particularly interested in exploring the concept of generosity, cultural understanding and peace in a time of climate crisis. Especially looking at the forecasts made by Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) scientists where environmental disaster and climate related catastrophes will force mass migration from Global South and Most Affected Peoples and Areas (MAPA) to different parts of the world, including Europe.
